India’s national election is scheduled for April or May, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party is predicted to win a third consecutive term. In addition, the farmers are putting pressure on the government to honor its pledges to forgive loans and cease legal actions against them that were initiated during their 2021 protests. So far, multiple discussions have not succeeded in ending the impasse.

To keep the farmers out, authorities have blocked the highways leading to New Delhi with metal containers, cement blocks, barbed wire, and iron spikes. The farmers have brought in excavators and bulldozers in an attempt to force their way through.

On February 21, farmers attempted to resume their march to the Indian capital rummy wealth, but one protestor lost his life as a result of the violence between them and the police. Since negotiations with the administration had not succeeded in resolving their requests for guaranteed agricultural prices, the protests had persisted.

Twelve police officers were hurt, according to Haryana police, after protesters attacked them with clubs and threw stones at them.

While their unions held talks with government representatives, the farmers canceled their demonstration and camped out along the border between the states of Punjab and Haryana, near the town of Shambhu.
